The Department of Biological Science, Nazareth College of Education for Women was established at the inception of the institution in 2006. Biological Science curriculum has been included in B.Ed., Curriculum based on the Bio-Social issues which are related to life and living of the community which relates in developing a greater student-teacher community at local, regional, national and global levels.
• To provide education of highest quality to teacher trainees in the field of science.
• To inspire and inculcate the value of teaching profession through teaching of science.
• To acquire adequate skills in using proper and suitable methods of teaching biology
• To acquire knowledge relating to the organization of curricular and co-curricular that would
promote the teaching of Biology
The activities of the department are planned well in advance. Students are encouraged to plan their work well and do them in systematic manner. Students involve in many curricular and co-curricular activities.
Apart from the theory papers Biological Science Paper I & II, the students are trained practically.
• Observation classes are taken by teacher educators and experienced teachers.
• Practicing various skills of micro-teaching.
• Teaching practice in Schools.
• Constructing and administering an achievement test.
• Preparation of instructional aids like charts, models, transparencies, power point presentation.
• Preparation of PLM, instructional cards and science albums.
• Simple investigatory projects in Biology
• Evaluation of Science textbooks.
Exhibition:
• Students exhibition being conducted every year where student teachers exhibit their models
Competition:
Students are motivated to participate in various competitions like model making, elocution etc.
Colour Day:
Department of Bio-Science celebrated a particular day as Colour Day like green, yellow, pink along with various cultural activities.
Debate:
Every year debates are conducted on various topics like “Science is a Boon or Bane”, “Global Warming” the need of the hour.
Awareness Programs are conducted on various environmental issues like Aids, Tobacco, Child Abuse, Global Warming etc.
• Ms.Jeba Priya of 2007-2008 batch got university first rank.
• 100% pass from the year 2006-2011
• V.Meenambigai got II prize at the state level model making competition.
Staff are encouraged to attend Seminar and Conference at the National & International level to orient and update with the recent trends in teaching methodologies and innovative pedagogical strategies.
